An in depth review was performed by the architect, civil engineer, landscape
architect and builder with regard to the various options discussed during the
previous session of the Historic Preservation Committee. Locating a full
size replica behind the garage or at the turn of the driveway presents
significant issues related to drainage, grading, tree removal and setbacks. In
addition, these two options are estimated to incur an additional expense of
approximately $100,000, or 5% of the cost of the house.
The primary proposal being submitted reflects one of the concepts
mentioned at the meeting and we believe it maximizes the intent of the
Historic Preservation Committee, while at the same time minimizes the
impact to the site and the additional cost to be incurred during construction.
In this proposal, the design of the front fa<;ade of the existing structure will
be replicated, almost identically, on the north-west wall of the proposed new
garage. A plaque will be added to the new house noting the significance of
the structure to be removed.
An additional solution situates an accessory building in one of two locations.
It should be noted that a structure placed near the turn in the driveway will
result in a roofline which protrudes above the street level of Foster Road.
The attached site plan delineates the restricted building envelope which
results from compliance with the Town of Los Gatos guidelines/regulations
and limits the relocation of the structure to be demolished.

PROJECT STATEMENT
THIS PROPOSAL REFLECTS A CONCEPT CONSIDERED AT THE PRIOR
MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE.
THE DESIGN OF THE FRONT FACADE OF THE EXISTING BUILDING WILL
BE REPLICATED ON THE NORTH-WEST WALL OF THE PROPOSED NEW
GARAGE. CONSIDERING THE SITE CONSTRAINTS, WE BELIEVE THIS IS
THE BEST OPTION TO REPLICATE THE EXISTING STRUCTURE.
THE SITE PLAN DELINEATES THE ALLOWED BUILDING ENVELOPE PER
TOWN GUIDELINES/REGULATIONS.
