03-23-16 Minutes - HPCTOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95030 (408) 354-6874 SUMMARY MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR MARCH 23, 2016 HELD IN THE TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS , 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS , CALIFORNIA. The meeting was called to order at 4:00P.M. by Chair Bob Cowan. ATTENDANCE Members Present: Len Pacheco, Bob Cowan, Kathryn Janoff, Michael Kane, Tom O 'Donnell Members Absent: None Staff Present: Mami Moseley, Associate Planner Sylvie Roussel , Administrative Assistant VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS-NONE 1. Approval of Minutes • February 24, 2016 • March 9, 2016 MOTION: Len Pacheco moved to approve the minutes ofFebruary 24,2016 and March 9, 2016. The motion was seconded by Michael Kane and approved 5-0. 2. 131 Johnson Avenue Requesting approval to construct a new second story on property zoned R-1 :8 . APN 532-29-011. PROPERTY OWNER/APPLICANT: Camille and Chris Bernhoft PROJECT PLANNER: Mami Moseley Kathryn Janoff stated that the proposed design is on the right track for staying with the historical look of the neighborhood. The committee agreed there are a lot of positive aspects in the proposed design. MOTION: The committee gave the following directions: to restore the original porch details, the proposed windows should match the original windows if possible, windows without mullions are preferred, and window sills should be installed throughout if possible. 3. 246 University A venue Historic Architecture and Site Application HS-16-028 Requesting approval to replace the existing wood windows with clad and add Historic Preservation Committee March 23, 2016 Page 2 of3 French doors to the rear elevation on property zoned R-lD:LHP. APN 529-04- 093. PROPERTY OWNER: Bogueslaw (George) Marcinkowski APPLICANT: Sylvia Ferranyalka PROJECT PLANNER: Marni Moseley Len Pacheco stated the house was not m good condition and the proposed windows would be an improvement. MOTION: Len Pacheco moved to approve the proposed application. Additionally, approval of the doorway options, where the applicant can implement the most appropriate option based on the existing framing. The motion was seconded by Tom 0 'Donnell and approved 5-0. 4. 136 Tait A venue (Modification of previous approval) Historic Architecture and Site Application S-15-043 Requesting approval for an addition to a contributing single-family residence in the Almond Grove Historic District on property zoned R-1D:LHP. APN 510-18- 023. PROPERTY OWNER: John and Valerie Hopkins APPLICANT : Steve Sweeters PROJECT PLANNER: Marni Moseley MOTION: Len Pacheco moved to approve the proposed modifications. The motion was seconded by Tom O'Donnell and approved 4-0-1, with Bob recused . 5. 104 University Avenue Historic Architecture and Site Application HS-16-027 Requesting approval to change the railing type on existing decking on property zoned C-2:LHP. APN 529-02-012. PROPERTY OWNER/APPLICANT: Bert Millen PROJECT PLANNER: Mami Moseley Len Pacheco stated there may be building code 1ssues that will need to be addressed . Kathryn Janoff suggested not painting the railings white and instead usmg a darker color. MOTION: Kathryn Janof.fmoved to approve the proposed metal railings and recommended Historic Pres ervation Committee March 23 , 2016 Page 3 o/3 painting the railing a dark color and that if in the future , the applicant should replace the side staircase, they be consistent with same material and color as the upper deck. The motion was seconded by Micha e l Kane and approved S-0. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 5 :15p.m .
