08-02-06 Minutes - HPC110 TOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95032 (408) 354-6872 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR AUGUST 2, 2006, HELD IN THE TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Chair Burch. ATTENDANCE Members Present: Kendra Burch, Bob Cowan, D. Michael Kane, Len Pacheco and Steve Rice Members Absent:None Staff Present:Sandy Baily, Associate Planner ITEM 1:21 MARIPOSA AVENUE Applicant requested that since Committee member Pacheco was an acquaintance of theirs, that he should recuse himself from this item. Pacheco stated for the record that he contacted the Town Attorney to determine whether or not he should recuse himself from this matter. Since there was no monetary exchange or gain between the applicant and Pacheco, there was no conflict of interest. The Committee reconsidered plans for a second story addition to a pre-1941 single family residence. The Committee commended the applicant for specifically addressing their concerns raised at the previous meeting. Kane moved to recommend approval of the application to the Director of Community Development with the following conditions: 1.The proposed garage door may be a single door but shall be designed to resemble a double garage door. 2.Sidi ng shal l mat ch the exis ting s idin g. 3.All windows and doors shall be wood. No snap in grids or grids inside the windows are permitted. Simulated wood grids are acceptable (ie: one glass pack with grids applied by manufacturer to inside, outside and between glass), to read as a true divided lite window. Vinyl clad windows are not permitted. 4.All window trim, window finish detail, corner boards, soffits, eaves, millwork and any other detai l shal l mat ch ex isti ng. Burch seconded, motion passed unanimously. ITEM 2:86 BROADWAY The Committee considered plans for window changes at the front facade for a single family residence located in the Broadway Historic District. The Committee stated that the existing arched window is a defining architectural characteristic of the house and should remain. Kendra moved to approve the window change at the bedroom for egress purposes and that if the arched window was proposed to be removed, that it be replicated. Kane seconded, motion passed unanimously. The applicant shall return to the Committee to discuss the proposed railing required by Building Code at the front porch. ITEM 3 OTHER BUSINESS a.590 Monterey Avenue - The Committee considered a preliminary request for a demolition of a pre-1941 single family residence. Based on the extensive structural reports provided, the Committee stated that a demolition is justified. b.506 University Avenue - The Committee considered a preliminary request for a demolition of a pre-1941 single family residence. A structural report was not provided. Although the porch was added which is not architecturally compatible with the house, the Committee stated that the house has architectural significance and that the house appeared to be repairable. Based on the information provided, a demolition would not be supported. c.Pre-1941 Design Guidelines - Baily provided an update. Homework assignment to review the contributing structures of the Historic Districts.
