SUMMARY MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR MARCH 2, 2005, HELD IN THE
TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Chair Pacheco
ATTENDANCE
Members Present: Bob Cowan, D. Michael Kane, Tom O’Donnell and Len Pacheco
Members Absent:Kendra Burch
Staff Present:Sandy Baily, Associate Planner
ITEM 1:221 ALEXANDER AVENUE
The Committee considered alternative door designs to meet recommendations from the Historic
Preservation to add onto a pre-1941 single family residence. Pacheco moved to accept a plain

Kane stated for the record that he lives within 500 feet of the next two projects and recused
hims elf fro m the r est of the me eting.
ITEM 2:40 CHESTER STREET
The Committee considered a request to remove the house from the Historic Resources Inventory.
Pacheco moved to remove the house from the Town Historic Resources Inventory based on the
following findings:
1.Significant modifications have been made to the house in the 1960's which altered the
historic character of the house.
2.The building is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution
to the Town.
3.No significant persons are associated with the site.
4.There are no distinctive characteristics of type, period or method of construction or
representation of work of a master.

Cowan seconded, motion passed unanimously. Appeal rights were cited.
ITEM 3:54 CHESTER STREET
The Committee considered a request to demolish a pre-1941 single family residence. Cowan
moved to recommend approval of the demolition to the Development Review Committee,
contingent upon the use of the architectural plans for the addition for the new house, based on
the following findings:
1.Based on the evidence provided by the structural engineer, the structure has inadequate
st ru ct ur al in te gr it y.
2.Modifications have been made to the residence which has resulted in the loss of its
historic character.
3.The structure is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution
to the Town.
4.No significant persons are associated with the site.
5.There are no distinctive characteristics of type, period or method of construction or
representation of work of a master.

ITEM 4.OTHER BUSINESS

Baily informed the Committee on the status of previous applications.
