09-03-03 Minutes - HPC110 TOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95032 (408) 354-6872 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR SEPTEMBER 3, 2003, HELD IN TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 5:40 P.M. by Chair Pacheco. ATTENDANCE Members Present: Susan Burnett, Jeanne Drexel, and Len Pacheco Absent: Kelly Blough and Joanne Talesfore Staff Present: Sandy Baily, Associate Planner ITEM 1: 78 BENTLEY AVENUE A representative for this project was not present to discuss changing the material of the exterior railing from wood to steel for a multi-family development in the University/Edelen Historic District. Therefore, the matter was continued to a special meeting. The Committee did express concern about the proposed material and recommended that the railing material be changed to look less institutional and more residential in character. ITEM 2: 642 SAN BENITO AVENUE The Committee considered plans to construct a second story addition to a pre-1941 single family residence. Pacheco moved to continue the matter with the following directions: 1. At the front elevation, revised plans shall include the eyebrows and the arcaded wing wall which is on the original structure. 2. At the left elevation, redesign the bay window so that it is more in keeping with the rear bay. 3. At the left elevation on the first floor, a pair of windows shall be provided. A window shall be added on the second floor in the area of the toilet/closet. 4. At the right elevation, the clipped corner shall be eliminated and the balcony and kitchen window shall be relocated. 5. Maintain the Roman arches, do not use Gothic arches. 6. Show the stucco railing at the front elevation. 7. The chimney shall match the existing chimney. 8. At the rear elevation, the number of lights on the bay window shall be consistent with the number of lights in the other existing windows. 9. The house can be restuccoed provided that the stucco will match the existing. Burnett seconded, motion passed unanimously. ITEM 3: OTHER BUSINESS a. 16900 Roberts Road - The Committee discussed several options for either demolishing or adding onto the structure. b. Boiler Plate conditions - The Committee reviewed the standard conditions of approval and made comments. The matter was continued to the next meeting to allow more review. Members were encouraged to refer to resource materials in developing standard conditions. c. Pre-1941 Design Guidelines - The Committee discussed items that should be considered for the rewrite. Continued to next meeting. ITEM 4: STATUS OF PREVIOUS APPLICATIONS Baily informed the Committee on the status of previous applications. ITEM 5: APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes from the meeting of August 6, 2003 were passed unanimously with a change made to the standard boiler plate concerning simulated divided light windows..
