Members of the Town Council and Staff:
At the request of the Town Council, and outlined in our amended operators agreement, we are
supplying information for the Town Council meeting scheduled for 11/7/17.
Per the operator's agreement, we have installed two sound level meters (RION NL-S2EX) in the locations
as noted on the sound study begun on 9/27/16 and completed 10/4/16. These sound meters are agreed
to be on, and monitored during every entertainment event with live music or amplified sound in the
courtyard. To this date, we have not had any live music outside, or amplified sound with one exception.
On August 26th, we hosted an event for a birthday from 5pm-10pm. While preparing the reports for the
date, we observed Db Spikes; however, we did not receive any alerts from the meters for sound
violations. We immediately contacted Scantek Inc. (the company who provided the meters and
provides the hosting platform) to investigate this and we were informed "there was some transmission
error that prevented audio files to be received by the server, which therefore did not send any email."
We have provided the meter report for this event, and have been informed that the error has been
corrected. Typically, events like these are booked many months in advance, and therefore we have had
only one event to date.
Our management team, including our Hotel Manager, Director of Events, Restaurant Manager, and
Banquet Captain(s) are able to monitor in real time any noise levels in the courtyard by accessing the
monitoring equipment. In addition, log files are kept during all entertainment events where amplified
sound or live music exists in the courtyard.
No complaints have been brought to the attention of management and staff directly at the hotel, nor
have we been advised of any complaints lodged with the Town of Los Gatos/LGPD.
We have taken a very cautious approach to the opportunity, as is suggested with the single eligible
event, and zero complaint result. As stated previously, live and amplified sound is essential only as it
complements our guests stay, and that the guests that surround the courtyard, both within and in close
proximity to the hotel walls. We intend to continue with this cautious approach, and maintain a positive
relationship with our neighbors.
