TOWN COUNCIL STUDY SESSION
The Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos held a workshop in the Council Chambers of
the Town Hall, 110 East Main Street at 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 24, 1997 to review
and study the Town's Residential Density Policies.
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Lubeck at 7:00 p.m. Present were Randy
Attaway, Joanne Benjamin, Steven Blanton, Jan Hutchins and Mayor Lubeck. Also present
were Orry Korb, Town Attorney; Regina Falkner, Community Services Director; Barbara
Coy-Bulicz, Community Services Program Analyst; and David W. Knapp, Town Manager
STUDY SESSION:
CONSIDERATION OF TOWN'S RESIDENTIAL DENSITY POLICIES:
Lee Bowman reviewed the material provided, including:
1.Town's Primary Goal - Protect Existing Residential Neighborhoods
2.Examples of Densities in Existing Neighborhoods
3.Why Are People Concerned About Density?
4.How Do We Maintain a Balanced Community?
5.Findings Are Required to Approve Medium/High Density Housing
6.Where Can New Medium/High Density Housing be Developed?
7.What Is the Relationship Between Density, Housing Type and Affordability?
8.How Should the Town Plan for This Balanced Community?
Joanne Benjamin pointed out that the issues of affordable housing and density are different
issues and should be treated separately. The other council members agreed and all
expressed their support for lower density and smaller units with maximum open space.

The workshop adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
