M 09-13-83TOWN COUNCIL OF LOS GATOS
SEPTEMBER 13, 1983
TOWN COUNCIL
The Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos met in the Council Chambers of the Town
Hall at 11:30 a.m., in a special session.
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Joanne Benjamin, Terrance J. Daily, Thomas J. Ferrito and Mayor Brent N.
Ventura.
ABSENT: Marlyn J. Rasmussen.
RESIGNATION-COUNCIL MEMBER MARLYN RASMUSSEN
Mayor Ventura stated Council had received the resignation of Councilwoman
Rasmussen effective immediately. This meeting was called to decide whether this
position should be filled by appointment or an election.
The Town Manager, Mr. Mora, reported on time schedule for both an appointment or an
election. Council questioned the various dates submitted. The first date that an
election could be held would be April 10, 1984. If an appointment is made, it must be
done no later than October 12, 1983. Mrs. Benjamin moved Council accept the
resignation of Councilwoman Rasmussen with regret and direct staff to prepare an
appropriate Resolution of Commendation for Council consideration. Mr. Daily
seconded. Carried unanimously.
Councilmembers discussed the importance of keeping the continuity of government
moving as quickly and smoothly as possible and the need for a full Council. Council
feels an appointment would be best, at this time, noting the time schedule involved. Mr.
Daily moved the vacancy be filled by appointment for the reasons stated above. Nrs.
Benjamin seconded. Carried unanimously.
John Hulme, 224 Camino del Cerro, stated he realizes Council has made their decision
for appointment, but feels the voters should be represented by someone of their choice
and suggested that he be considered for the appointment, due to his having received
the next largest amount of votes at the last election and his desire to serve the
community.
Discussion was held on the time schedule for receiving applications and for holding
interviews. Mrs. Benjamin moved that applications for the Council applicants be
accepted until 5:00 p.m., on September 23rd and interviews be scheduled for
September 26, 1983. Mr. Daily seconded. Carried unanimously. It was noted that if
sufficient applications were not received by September 23rd, then Council shall extend
the date for receiving applications. Applications may be picked up at the Town Clerk's
Office, 110 East Main Street. The applications will be similar to applications for Boards
and Commissions, accompanied by a one page statement of qualifications and not
more than a two page resume.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
