Subject: Public Art in Los Gatos
Beauty is what draws us to Los Gatos. Our stunning hillsides, charming homes, beautiful parks,
and dedication to preserving the look and feel of our town make this a desirable place to live.
Art plays an important part in creating the ambiance of Los Gatos. We are more than a
bedroom community to Silicon Valley. The existing and planned sculptural elements of the
town plaza create centers of attention that humanize an otherwise bare lawn space.
Providing art exhibits a commitment to more than a utilitarian existence; it is evidence of a
community committed to enhancing the quality of life.
Please support a percentage -for -art ordinance to ensure that our vision is implemented now
and for future generations.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jan Schwartz

To whom it may concern,
After reviewing this email can you please pass it on to the proper officials? Thank you.
I am writing to express my support for the council to pass a percentage -for -art ordinancethat would
fund pubic art projects in our Town.
I recall taking my kid to visit U of O's campus and was surprised and delighted to hear that 2%
of the operating budget of all new development on camlas was dedaatedto art. They had
beautiful fountains andsculpturesvisible from a dista nce. They obvious ly took great pride in this
as itwas hghlighted on the tour. It was the only thing I remember from thattour.
Please in U cf 0 in valuing public art.
Thank you

Town Council of Los Gatos,
Because 1 am out of town and unable to attend this meeting 1 strongly encourage you to support
the Arts Commission proposal to raise funds to serve, enhance and beautify our community.
Public art matters, according to the Americans I'm the Arts, because, "The purpose of public
art is not only to enrich the community and improve our quality of iite through its ability to
enrich an environment, but also to ignite the imagination, encourage thought and to prompt
discourse."
Cities gain value through public art --- cultural, social, and economic value. Public art is a
distinguishing part of our public history and our evolving culture. It reflects and reveals our
society, adds meaning to our cities and uniqueness to our communities. Public art humanizes the
built environment and invigorates public spaces. It provides an intersection between past, present
and future, between disciplines, and between ideas.
American. cities and towns aspire to be places where people want to live and want to visit.
Having a particular community identity, especially in terms of what our towns look like, is
becoming even more important in a world where everyplace tends to looks like everyplace else.
Places with strong public art expressions give communities a stronger sense of place and
.identity.
