This is my input per your request:
- The hip roof is definitely an improvement
- The design is still very modern and would be better suited in a different neighborhood of similar houses, not on
an elevated corner lot with older conventional homes.

Hello Monica and Patrick,
Thank you for reaching out to us and my apologies for the late reply.
It is taking me a while to answer to your email, as it is hard for me to imagine the final design of your
roof. For sure, we would never be in favor of a flat roof design as you had proposed before. In regards
to your "Hip Roof," we like to wait to see your design and also the outline once the second set of the
story polls is up.
I understand the frustration that you may feel as you have bought this house with the mind set of
demolishing it and building your dream home. All that said, you chose to buy a house in an established
neighborhood within the boundaries of town of Los Gatos rather than a land in a new development
which obligates you to respect the town regulations and to build it in harmony with its established
neighborhood.
We support the building codes set by the town of Los Gatos planning commission. I hope that you will
too and will not try to justify your design by parcels that are within the county such as the house in the
corner and the house on Linda that you refer to as "mid century modern."
At this point, it may be best for you to go through the regular steps set by the planning commission and
the town. As the members of planning commission suggested an architect who is familiar with the town
building codes would be very helpful. I understand that you have filed for an appeal with the Town
Counsel in September.
See you Next week, Vida

Dear Vida and Shahram,
We are considering new roof designs for our house and would like to get your input on
the two options.
1.The Town Consulting Architect suggested keeping the roof slope, but reversing the
direction to face Northeast instead of Southwest. So basically the same roof design, just
the slope facing forward instead of backward, and extending the same shape and slope
across the length of the house to make it more cohesive. From the front it would look
like a more traditional roof, but from the side it would maintain it's angled slope, just
reversed.
2. Another possibility is to use a more traditional roof shape. We could do a hip roof
design, like many houses in the immediate neighborhood.
Please let us know your preferences and which design change would better address
your concerns.
Sincerely,
Patrick Hancir and Monica Zaucha
