Mayor Rennie and Members of the Town Council
Town of Los Gatos
110 E. Main St
Los Gatos, CA 95030
Dear Mayor Rennie, Vice Mayor Leonardis, and Council Members Spector, Sayoc, and
Jensen:
RE: Response to the 2 17-2 18 Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury Report
We write today to thank the Town for its timely response to the Santa Clara County
Civil Grand Jury s request to address specific findings and recommendations that were
included in its June report entitled "Affordable Housing Crisis: Density is our Destiny."
As the staff response catalogues, many of the findings are well known to the Town, and
many of the recommendations have already been integrated into policy. Earlier this
year, Los Gatos took steps to amend its Accessory Dwelling Unit(ADU) ordinance to
increase ADU construction opportunities throughout the Town, similar to
recommendations mentioned in the report. We are pleased that the Town is taking up
the issue of the RHNA sub -region, and the regional discussion about barriers to meeting
RHNA targets. We expect Los Gatos to be an active and important partner in these
regional discussions.
Mary Miurtagh The Grand Jury report calls for a sustained commitment to long-term solutions. One of
FAH Housing the recommendations called for the adoption of a Commercial Linkage Fee to fund
Chris Neale affordable housing opportunities in the community. We ask the Council to prioritize a
Th Core Conrponi s nexus study on Commercial Linkage Fees to help fund affordable housing in Los

commercial development. Fees can be set at different levels for different commercial development
types. In addition, fees can also be based on the size of a business to decrease the burden on small
businesses.
We are all in this housing crisis together and all jurisdictions need to do their part. SV@Home stands
ready to continue our work with Los Gatos to meet our shared commitments.
