1989-026-Supporting AB 357 (Roos) Banning The Manufacture, Sale Or Possession Of Military "Assault Weapons" In CaliforniaRESOLUTION NO. 1989 -26
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
SUPPORTING AB 357 (ROOS) BANNING THE MANUFACTURE, SALE OR
POSSESSION OF MILITARY "ASSAULT WEAPONS" IN CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, there has been a rapid proliferation of military "assault weapons"
in our society; and
WHEREAS, there are no legitimate arguments for allowing these weapons of
war in our neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the high rate of fire, combined with the high magazine capacity
of these weapons, create such enormous firepower that their use for legitimate
sports and recreation are outweighed by their danger to human beings.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Gatos Town Council does hereby
support the passage of AB 357 (Roos) and further urges all California
Assemblypersons to vote for its passage.
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that while the Los Gatos Town Council supports AB
357 (Roos) as written, it is urged that Penal Code Section 12276(a)(1), as
proposed, be modified to ban "assault weapons" as follows: "All semiautomatic
action, centerfire rifles that accept detachable magazines with a capacity of
more than 5 rounds ".
