DESIGNATING MARCH 6TH THROUGH 12TH, 1988
A.A.U.W. WEEK
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Women was formed in 1882 by
a group of women college graduates to further the advancement of women, to
discharge their responsibilities to society, and to enable college women to
continue their own intellectual growth; and
WHEREAS, A.A.U.W.'s aims have expanded to include a concern for quality
education,which is attested to by their administration of the largest educational
fund of any American women's organization, and a concern for human and economic
rights for all; and,
WHEREAS, the membership of A.A.U.W. is made up of 150,000 women (and now,
also, men) from all political parties, all walks of life, and all parts of the
country and reaches out internationally through an organization which has
branches throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, local members participate in A.A.U.W, through the 404 member
Los Gatos - Saratoga branch, which has members who are active on school boards,
city councils, city and county commissions, and who have been instrumental
in the formation and work of local organizations to serve specific needs in
the community;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of Los Gatos, that the
week of March 6th to March 12th, 1988, be declared A.A.U.W. WEEK IN LOS GATOS,
and urges all members of the community to join in recognizing the outstanding
contributions made to the Town by members of the Los Gatos - Saratoga Branch
of the American Association of University Women.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos,
California, at a regular meeting held on the 16th day of February, 1988, by
the following vote:
