A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 1986 -130 AND ADOPTING SCHEDULES
OF AUTHORIZED POSITIONS AND SALARIES FOR FISCAL YEAR 1986 -87
WHEREAS, the Town Council wishes to reallocate one Engineering Inspector
position to one Junior Civil Engineer position in the Engineering Department; and
WHEREAS, there were certain inadvertent errors in the previously adopted
resolution governing authorized positions and salaries for Fiscal Year 1986 -87 as
shown on Exhibit "A" which now require adjustment; and
WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Town Council has adopted Resolution No. 1986 -130
governing authorized positions and salaries for Fiscal Year 1986 -87; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council wishes to rescind Resolution No. 1986 -130 and adopt a
new resolution governing authorized positions and salaries for Fiscal Year 1986 -87.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Town Council
of the Town of Los Gatos, County of Santa Clara, State of California, that the
Town Council hereby rescinds Town Council Resolution No. 1986 -130 authorizing
positions and salaries and hereby adopts as schedules of authorized positions and
salaries for Fiscal Year 1986 -87 those schedules attached hereto.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos, California, held on the 16th day of March 1987 by the
following vote:

JUNIOR CIVIL ENGINEER,
DEFINITION
March 1987
The Junior Civil Engineer position performs a variety of civil engineering duties in
conjunction with the design, research and administration of public works projects.
Depending upon assignment, work is performed under direct or general supervision and
may be reviewed by a higher -level engineer. The incumbent may direct the work of
Para- professional engineers on an intermittent or project basis.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from the next higher level of Assistant Civil
Engineer through the degree of difficulty of assignments.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The Junior Civil Engineer position may perform any of the duties set forth in the
class specifications for all para - professional engineering and engineering
inspection classes. In addition, the Junior Civil Engineer:
Participates in all facets of municipal engineering design, construction and
inspection. May include project participation from conceptualization through
design, and active participation in inspection responsibilities.
Prepares, negotiates, reviews and administers a variety of contracts and other
documents covering such matters as property descriptions, project
specifications, easements, access maintenance, and annexations.
Conducts studies involving the research, investigation and recommended
disposition of engineering problems regarding existing public works or
improvements to them (i.e., erosion control, street lighting, parking, drainage,
etc. ).
Reviews public works projects and private development with regards to a wide
variety of subjects. These entail determinations such as the conformance of
parcel maps to applicable regulations and the technical correctness and
feasibility of developers' plans.
Performs a number of functions attendant to the above reviews such as advising
developers of deficiencies in maps and plans and the preparation, negotiation
and administration of contracts and the preparation of bonds for development
projects.
Prepares reports, correspondence, exhibits and presentations in connection with
the above and related assignments.
Performs a variety of drafting and engineering computations.
May direct the work of para - professional engineering personnel on an
intermittent or project basis.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university; or
two years of pre - engineering from an accredited college or university and four years
of acceptable experience, and possession of a valid Engineer -in- Training Certificate
as issued by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Knowledge of
Principles and practices of public works engineering and methods. Materials and
techniques used in the construction of public works.
Ability to
Accurately review engineering plans, specifications, maps and computations; make
engineering computations and draft; develop a good working knowledge of department
programs, regulations and policies; prepare concise reports and presentations;
communicate effectively in writing and verbally; and maintain effective working
relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Driver's License
Possession of a valid appropriate State of California driver's license.
