A RESOLUTION DECLARING NOVEMBER 21, 1985, AS
"GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT DAY"
WHEREAS, the Surgeon General has determined that smoking is the nation's
number one health concern and has called for a Smokeless Society
by the Year 2000; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Smokeout is to have 2 million of the over 5 million
youth and adult smokers in the bellwether State of California pledge
not to smoke for one day -- November 21, 1985; and
WHEREAS, this Smokeout specifically encourages all Town of Los Gatos employees
to actively support this important program, all smoking employees are
requested to honor the Smokeout and give up cigarettes for the day,
and all non - smoking employees to provide support and encouragement
for their smoking colleagues;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos
does hereby declare November 21, 1985, to be the official day of the
GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT
for all residents of Los Gatos, and further commends the action of
the Santa Clara County Unit of the American Cancer Society for
attempting to make the 1985 Smokeout in this county a preview of
Year 2000, thereby alleviating the health hazards of smoking faced
by smokers and non - smokers alike.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA,
at a regular meeting held this 21st day of October
1985, by the following vote:
