1985-114-Commending The Efforts Of Both Firefighters And Members Of The Community In Response To The Needs Of Those Residents Threatened By The Recent Forest FiresRESOLUTION NO. 1985 -114
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EFFORTS OF BOTH FIREFIGHTERS AND
MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY IN RESPONSE TO THE NEEDS OF
THOSE RESIDENTS THREATENED BY THE RECENT FOREST FIRES
WHEREAS, the foothills surrounding the Town of Los Gatos and the adjacent
mountain communities were recently threatened and /or destroyed
by serious forest fires endangering both life and property; and
WHEREAS, without the overwhelming response of Santa Clara County's Central
Fire District and the State Department of Forestry, plus the support
of some 2,000 firefighters from 42 local municipalities and members
of the National Guard responding under mutual aid agreements, a
disaster of major proportions would have destroyed the Santa Cruz
Mountains; and
WHEREAS, members of the Los Gatos community joined together to provide these
same firefighters and residents with unqualified support in the form
of food, clothing, housing, transportation, and other support
services throughout the entire period of the fire;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS
GATOS does wholeheartedly commend those firefighters and members of the
community who gave so generously of themselves -- their time and their
energies -- to those residents whose homes and families were threatened
and /or destroyed by the fires which swept through the Santa Cruz Mountains
the week of July 7, 1985.
