A RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING THE RESTORATION
OF CUTS FROM TOXIC PROGRAMS IN THE STATE
BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the present and future health of all citizens of the State
is threatened by contamination of the State's ground drinking water supply
with toxic chemicals; and
WHEREAS, the State's program to detect toxic substances in drinking
water does not even test for most of the newer chemicals common in indus-
trial and agricultural use today; and
WHEREAS, Governor Deukmejian vetoed $6.9 million in funds from a wide
range of programs in the 1984 -85 budget aimed at preventing and regulating
drinking water contamination; and
WHEREAS, Governor Deukmejian eliminated $1.3 million to establish
registries to track cancer in incidences in various counties, including
Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, Governor Deukmejian vetoed $315,000 to check for abandoned
hazardous waste sites;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos recommends that the cuts in toxics programs in the 1984 -85 budget
be restored.

CALIFORNIA, at a regular meeting held this 6 day of August
1984, by the following vote:
