RESOLUTION NO. 1984 -46
A RESOLUTION DECLARING AAUW WEEK
IN LOS GATOS
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Women was formed in 1882 by a
group of women college graduates to further the advancement of women,
to discharge their responsibilities to society, and to enable college
women to continue their own intellectual growth; and
WHEREAS, AAUW's aims have expanded to include a concern for quality education,
which is attested to by their administration of the largest educational
fund of any American women's organization, and a concern for human and
economic rights for all; and
WHEREAS, the membership of AAUW is now made up of 190,000 women from all politi-
cal parties, all walks of life, and all parts of the country and reaches
out internationally through an organization which has branches throughout
the world; and
WHEREAS, local women participate in AAUW through the 420 - member Los Gatos - Saratoga
branch, which has members who are active on school boards, city councils,
city and county commissions, and who have been instrumental in the forma-
tion and work of local organizations to serve specific needs in the
community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos
does hereby declare the week of March 13 to March 19, 1984, as AAUW WEEK IN
LOS GATOS, and urges all members of the community to join in recognizing the
outstanding contributions made to the Town by members of the Los Gatos- Saratoga
Branch of the American Association of University Women.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos, California, at a
regular meeting held this 19th day of March 1984, by
the following vote:

Terrence J. Daily, Brent N. Ventura and Mayor
