1981-247-Endorsing The California Bilateral Nuclear Weapons Freeze InitiativeRESOLUTION NO. 1981 -247
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL ENDORSING
THE CALIFORNIA BILATERAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS
FREEZE INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Town Council has been presented with a copy of the Bilateral
Nuclear Weapons Freeze Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Council is concerned with the need for imposing a freeze on the
production of nuclear weapons; and
WHEREAS, the Council feels that the production of these weapons will dramatically
increase the risk of nuclear war while making verifiable reduction
measures impossible; and
WHEREAS, the halt of production of nuclear weapons by both the United States and
the Soviet Union is an urgent priority and the most logical first step
toward reduction and eventual elimination of current nuclear weapons
stockpiles; and
WHEREAS, the Council support an initiative on this issue to encourage debate and
dialogue on this crucial matter;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council endorses the Bilateral
Nuclear Weapons Freeze Initiative so that the voters of the State of
California will have an opportunity to vote on this very critical
issue; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council urges residents of the Town of Los
Gatos to sign the initiative petition to place this item on the ballot.
