1981-086-Calling For Reforms In The Election ProcessRESOLUTION NO. 1981 -86
A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR REFORMS IN
THE ELECTION PROCESS.
WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos has constantly
revered every citizen's right to vote; and
WHEREAS, there exists evidence which indicates that the election
process has been abused because of:
1. The widespread registration of non - citizens and
illegal aliens and forgery in the registration
process as reported by the San Jose Mercury, and
2. The withholding of registration postcards by those
charged with delivering the postcards to the County
Registrar; and
WHEREAS, the current system of registration postcards has proved to
be too vulnerable to the above abuses;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos hereby calls for the following action to be taken
to return honesty to the election process:
An investigation by the District Attorney and /or the
Attorney General into the abuses listed above;
2. Legislation which will repeal registration by post-
card;
3. Proof of citizenship to be presented upon registration;
4. Harsher penalties to be levied against those who commit
election fraud; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that other cities in Santa Clara County be
encouraged to join with the Town of Los Gatos in calling for
the above reforms so that Californians can have fair elections
restored.
