1980-057-Urging Federal Government To Encourage The Chrysler Motor Corporation To Undertake The Manufacture Of Buses For Public Transit NeedsRESOLUTION NO. 1980 -57
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
LOS GATOS URGING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO
ENCOURAGE THE CHRYSLER, MOTOR CORPORATION TO
UNDERTAKE THE MANUFACTURE OF BUSES FOR PUBLIC
TRANSIT NEEDS.
WHEREAS, the Santa Clara County Transit District currently is
experiencing passenger ridership growth on its available fleet of buses
which is among the fastest in the nation; and
WHEREAS, there is a national shortage of available full -size, heavy-
duty transit buses caused, in large part, because of the scarcity of bus
manufacturers in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Chrysler Motor Corporation has received certain federal
loan guarantees in order to enable it to continue in business as a motor
vehicle manufacturer;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the federal government encourage
the Chrysler Motor Corporation to enter the bus manufacturing field and,
as a condition of any further federal financial assistance, subsidies or
loan guarantees, that automobile corporations be required to embark upon
the manufacture of public transit buses in order to augment the limited
production capacity currently provided by the two major bus manufacturers
in the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the Town of Los Gatos be
authorized to communicate these concerns to the Secretary of the United
States Department of Transportation, Washington, D.C.

CALIFORNIA, at a regular meeting held this 19th day
of May 1980, by the following vote:
