SUBJECT: APPROVE AN AMENDMENT TO THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN ADDING THE
NEW CLASSIFICATION OF TRANSPORTATION AND MOBILITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve an amendment to the classification plan (Attachment 1) adding the new classification
of Transportation and Mobility Manager.
BACKGROUND:
The Town of Los Gatos Personnel Rules and Regulations (Section 4.4) and the Municipal Code
(Section 2.30.925) require that amendments and revisions to the classification plan are
effective upon approval by Town Council. Typically, these changes are presented to Council for
approval as part of the formal budget adoption or through the labor negotiations process.
On February 7, 2017 the Town Council authorized the Parks and Public Works Department’s
request to allocate $70,000 from the FY 2015/2016 year end fund balance to fund a full-time
position at the level of Senior Civil Engineer to advance Town congestion management projects
within the Measure B/Los Gatos Priorities and directed staff to amend the classification plan for
formal approval at a future meeting.
DISCUSSION:
The Town’s classification plan has been amended to add the new job classification of
Transportation and Mobility Manager to advance Town congestion management projects as a
result of the passage of the Measure B sales tax initiative, such as the bicycle/pedestrian and

local streets and roads programs. The Transportation and Mobility Manager classification has
been added to the Salary Schedule for Town Council and Management at the same salary range
the Senior Civil Engineer classification which is $87,894 - $135,221. Following Council’s
approval of the amendment to the classification plan, a competitive recruitment process will
commence to fill the position.
CONCLUSION:
Staff is requesting approval of an amendment to the classification pla n to add the new
classification of Transportation and Mobility Manager to formalize direction received during the
February 7, 2017 Council meeting. The Town’s Personnel Rules and Municipal Code require
Council approval of the amendment prior to the appoin tment to a new classification.
COORDINATION:
This report has been coordinated with the Parks and Public Works Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funding for the remainder of the FY 2016/2017 in the amount of $70,000 will be provided from
the year end fund balance to allow for immediate recruitment of the position. Future funding
for the annual cost of $210,000 will come through the annual budget process.
ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:
This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required.
