Description or Characteristics which justify Designation: The primary residence was constructed by Senator /Judge Hastings as a Summer Home prior to the turn of the Century. The five bedroom, two bath house contains approximately 3,000 square feet, and most of the original fixtures remain intact. During the last 73 years the various owners of the house have been involved in humane efforts. For example, during World War I, the house was used for packing and shipping much needed supplies to both American and German troops. Most recently, the residence provided housing for numerous low income persons. An inspection by the Town revealed that the house is in reasonably good condition structurally as is the water tower. The water tower has become a landmark designating the northerly boundary of the Town. In addition, the water tower is one of the few water towers that still remain in the Town. E.
