Please do what you can to make our homes and stores accessible to us and our guests. We realize this is a difficult situation and appreciate your efforts on behalf of Los Gatos residents and businesses. Respectfully, Harvey and Perla Kohs 15455 Blackberry Hill Road From: Julie Conlisk Sent: Friday, March 31, 2017 10:34 AM To: Council Subject: beach traffic Dear Council Members, We want to express our support for the proposal that will go before you this Tuesday at your meeting to close the end of North Santa Cruz Avenue in order for the on-ramp to Highway 17 to not be utilized by beach going cutting through our town. As residents of downtown Los Gatos we have experienced first hand the frustrating and dangerous gridlock in our neighborhood when the ramp is open on the summe r weekends. We do not wish to spend another summer unable to move freely to and from our home on the weekends because of this problem . We hope that, once passed, this closure will be widely publicized so everyone knows this will be done consistently and visitors will once again be able to come to Los Gatos on the weekends and enjoy all that the downtown has to offer with it's parks, shopping and dining without the traffic nightmare. I hope that you will all approve this proposal and start it as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your attention to this very important issue for our town. It is truly unfair to the residents of Los Gatos to be confined to their homes on weekends due to people attempting to find a short cut through our town to Santa Cruz. I have been a resident for over 30 years and have never experienced anything like the traffic issues over the past two years mainly during the warmer weather. It is dangerous to think something could happen and it is grid lock and no emergency personnel could get through let alone a nightmare for residents who might be trying to run errands or just go out for a meal downtown. From: Susan Moore Brown Sent: Friday, March 31, 2017 9:48 AM To: Council Subject: Closure of ramp to 17 Hello, would like to weigh in on the council's upcoming decision regarding the possibility of ramp closure to the 17 this summer. I live on Ellenwood in downtown Los Gatos and we have been severely impacted by the downtown traffic. My two children both had such close calls with road raged drivers while riding their bikes into town last summer that I ended up not allowing them to bike at all during those heavy traffic times. And I'm talking about traffic backed up onto the residential streets like Tait, Wilder and even as far up as Glenridge. My husband normally has a 10-15 minute commute to work In Campbell and found himself abandoning his car and walking home rather than continue to sit in absolutely standstill traffic. Additionally, we would often cancel plans if it required getting in our car as we weren't sure how long it might take us to get back. We found we could return from events in SF within less than an hour to only find it take us another entire hour to get the last mile home. These are just some examples but honestly, the constant maneuvering around the blocked streets made such a major impact on our enjoyment of living in Los Gatos. Even walking downtown was troublesome and uncomfortable. And I know several business owners who said there was no way to stay in business if this was going to continue. I know everyone I have spoken with feel very strongly in favor of the ramp closure. We need to keep our town a TOWN to safely walk, bike, shop in and enjoy and not for it to only serve as the Highway 17 Alternate. I hope that enough folks get in touch to help make this an easy decision for the council. We live on the corner of Massol and Bean Avenue. When beach traffic starts we are hostages at home. My husband is a doctor and when he's on call he can't attend to urgent care calls. This beach traffic has really affected our quality of life. We can't enjoy summer w eekends, our children can't participate in any organized sport activities, we can visit grandparents or friends. I am in support of closing the street at the end of North Santa Cruz for portions of Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The beach traffic issues in recent years have made it very unpleasant to live and enjoy downtown Los Gatos. We have lived here for 19 years and beach traffic is one of the only things that have made us discuss possibly moving away. Santa Cruz at the south end of town to avoid having beach traffic come through town. I would like to urge the Council to vote in favor of this action. The will not solve the problem north of highway 9, which impact my neighborhood off Roberts Rd. There were many times last you when I could not leave my house. I know many of the town’s residents had similar issues. I don’t know the answer to solve these cut through traffic issues but the closure of the ramp south of town will help.
