1983-010-Directed To General Telephone Company Of California Re Service Problems In Los Gatos AreaRESOLUTION NO. 1983 -10 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DIRECTED TO GENERAL TELEPHONE COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA RE SERVICE PROBLEMS IN LOS GATOS AREA. WHEREAS, the Town of Los Gatos and the adjacent area served by General Telephone Company of California have been and continue to be plagued by unreliable, malfunctioning, and inefficient telephone service; and WHEREAS, the residences and businesses serviced by General Telephone Company of California in the Los Gatos area need and deserve reliable telephone service that will meet the same performance standards other telephone companies provide and Americans have come to expect from their telephone service; and WHEREAS, certain members of the staff of the Public Utilities Commission have criticized General Telephone Company of California for not properly maintaining their telephone equipment for an extended period in the 1970s; and WHEREAS, the number of trouble reports in the Los Gatos area averages approximately 6.5 to 7 per 100 telephones, while Pacific Telephone averages but 3 trouble reports per 100 telephones, and General Telephone averages approximately 6 trouble reports per 100 tele- phones statewide; and WHEREAS, the results of a poll conducted by a Los Gatos newspaper confirm that there is a very strong degree of dissatisfaction among Los Gatos residents concerning their General Telephone service and that the overwhelming majority of persons responding to this poll rates their telephone service as being 'poor' or 'very poor'; and WHEREAS, the Los Gatos Town Council believes a serious problem exists with respect to the quality of phone service in our community, and believes that General Telephone should take immediate action to remedy all problems; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Los Gatos Town Council hereby demands that General Telephone Company of California undertake immediately all necessary measures that will remedy and improve the quality and reliability of telephone service in the Los Gatos area; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that such remedies and improvement shall include the immediate installation of state -of- the -art electronic digital switching equipment for the Blossom Hill General Telephone Company office, to be purchased from any manufacturer; for a thorough and complete examination and repair of all telephone cables from the switching office to customers, and for such cables to be properly maintained at all times thereafter; and for the com- plete examination and repair of all switching equipment at the Montebello Way office and for the proper maintenance of that equipment at all times thereafter; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Los Gatos Town Council will monitor General Telephone Company's ability to correct these service inadequacies in the Los Gatos area, and will take whatever action is deemed neces- sary in the future to remedy existing service problems and insure the reliability of telephone service.
