Main Street Los Gatos, CA 95030 ● 40 8 -354 -68 32 <br />www.losgatosca.gov <br />TOWN OF LOS GATOS <br />COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />MEETING DATE: 06 /19 /2018 <br />ITEM NO: 6 <br /> <br /> <br />D ATE : J UNE 12 , 2018 <br />TO : MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL <br />FROM: LAUREL PREV E TTI, TOWN MANAGER <br /> ROBERT SCHULTZ, TOWN ATTORNEY <br /> <br />SUBJECT: ADOPT AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA <br />IMPOSING A G ENERAL TRANSACTIONS AND USE TAX <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION : <br /> <br />Adopt ordinance that was introduced at the Town Council meeting of June 5, 2018 , imposing a <br />general transaction and use tax for a period of twenty years if a majority of the Town’s q ualified <br />voters approve the ballot measure at the November 6, 2018, regular municipal election. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND : <br /> <br />On June 5, 2018 , the Council considered and voted to introduce an Ordinance (Attachment 1) <br />imposing a general transaction and use tax for a period of twenty years if a majority of the <br />Town’s qualified voters approve the ballot measure at the November 6, 2018, regular municipal <br />election. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> <br />Pursuant to State law, the Council must adopt the proposed ordinance in order to place the <br />gen eral transaction and use tax on the ballot. <br /> <br />CONCLUSION : <br /> <br />Council should move for the adoption of the attached Ordinance. <br /> <br />Attachments: <br />1.
