Subject: Town Council meeting comments for 8/19/13
Dear Town Council members,
I am writing to offer a comment on a resolution for the Town Council meeting on 8/19/13 related
to extending. term limits for the North 40 Advisory Committee.
Over the last several years, projects that are not consistent with traditional Los Gatos characteristics have
been rammed through the planning process by means of the Planned Development designation. Town
staff and legislators have been doing a disservice to residents by over -use and mis -use of the Planned
Development status to enable developers to bypass General Plan standards and Town Design
Guidelines. Town residents depend on the General Plan as a means of protection against unscrupulous
development, and deserve better than to have General Plan requirements ignored.
Members of the North 40 Advisory Committee are playing an important role in shaping our Town, and
their decisions will have a significant and permanent impact on the quality _of life of residents living -near
the development. Committee members should be dedicated to preserving the General Plan rather than
bypassing it. Before having their terms extended, committee members should be required to pledge
to uphold Los Gatos 2020 General Plan requirements for the North 40 development project.
Thank you for your consideration!
Chris Cowan
Los Gatos resident, Oka Lane
