10-05-05 Minutes - HPC110 TOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95032 (408) 354-6872 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR OCTOBER 5, 2005, HELD IN THE TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Chair Pacheco ATTENDANCE Members Present: Kendra Burch, D. Michael Kane, and Tom O’Donnell and Len Pacheco Members Absent:Bob Cowan Staff Present:Sandy Baily, Associate Planner ITEM 1:51 UNIVERSITY AVENUE The Committee considered a request install awnings on a commercial building in the University Edelen Historic District. Burch moved to recommend approval of the application to the Development Review Committee with the following conditions: 1.The proposed awning is acceptable, if signage on the awning is proposed, a vertical lip shall be provided to allow area for the signage. 2.The balcony should not be painted a pastel color. O’Donnell seconded, motion passed unanimously. The Committee recommended that the overhangs be painted a darker color. ITEM 2:4 TAIT AVENUE The Committee considered plans to paint a wall mural and install a flag pole at the Los Gatos Museum located in the Broadway Historic District. Kane moved to recommend approval with the following conditions: 1.The fl ag pole shoul d be ta ller t o be mo re prop ortio nal wi th th e buil ding. 2.The mural on the second garage door should be completed where a sign is proposed. 3.The proposed sign should be relocated between the two windows on the W. Main Street elevation since the proposed location takes away from the mural. 4.Pin mounted letters should be used for the signage. 5.Ensure neighbors are okay with a lighted flagpole. ITEM 3:256 UNIVERSITY AVENUE The Committee reconsidered plans to request approval to modify previously approved plans regarding window location and size on property in the University Edelen Historic District. The modification was completed without approvals. Kane moved to approve the modification. The basis for the approval is as follows: 1.The work done is of good quality and workmanship 2.The windows are compatible with the historic structure. 3.There are similar windows next door and on other historic houses in Town. Pacheco seconded, motion passed unanimously. Appeal rights were cited. ITEM 4.OTHER BUSINESS a.218 Wilder Avenue - The Committee considered a preliminary request to add onto and alter an existing residence. The Committee stated that the applicant is going in the right direction. The proposal is very sensitive to the existing house and the architectural detailing is very good. b.513 San Benito Avenue - The Committee considered a preliminary request to demolish a single family residence. Based on the information provided, the Committee stated they could not support a demolition. c.16925 Roberts Road - The Committee considered a preliminary request to add a sun room at the side of the house. Representative for the project was not present.
