08-03-05 Minutes - HPC110 TOWN OF LOS GATOS 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA 95032 (408) 354-6872 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS FOR AUGUST 3, 2005, HELD IN THE TOWN COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 110 E MAIN STREET, LOS GATOS, CALIFORNIA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The meeting was called to order at 5:30 P.M. by Chair Pacheco ATTENDANCE Members Present: Bob Cowan, D. Michael Kane, Tom O’Donnell and Len Pacheco Members Absent:Kendra Burch Staff Present:Sandy Baily, Associate Planner ITEM 1:15 JACKSON STREET The Committee considered a request to modify the rear doors for a previously approved second story addition to a pre-1941 single family residence . Pacheco moved to approve the modification. O’Donnell seconded, motion passed unanimously. Appeal rights were cited. ITEM 2:115 LOMA ALTA AVENUE The Committee considered revised plans to modify the north elevation for a previously approved addition to construct a second story addition to a pre-1941 single family residence . O’Donnell moved to approve the modification subject to the condition that the corbels and brackets be included on the final plans. Cowan seconded, motion passed 3 to 1. Appeal rights were cited. ITEM 3:315 LOS GATOS BLVD The Committee considered a request to modify previously approved plans for a first story addition to a pre-1941 single family residence. Pacheco moved to continue the matter with the following directions: 1.The porch detail and posts need to be defined on the plans. 2.Look at clipping the existing shed roof. 3.Show the gable end returns. 4.Look at reducing the size of the dormers. 5.Consider changing the existing windows to be more consistent with the architectural style of the house. ITEM 4.254 UNIVERSITY AVENUE The Committee considered a request to change the front porch and landscape/retaining wall on property in the University/Edelen Historic District. O’Donnell moved to approve the request to change the front porch and railings and to deny the request to change the material of the wall. The basis for the denial was that the request did not meet the development standards regarding fences and walls in the University/Edelen Historic District Ordinance. Pacheco seconded, motion passed unanimously. Appeal rights were cited. The applicant was informed that the wall must be approved with a texture to match the existing concrete. If the applicant wished to refile a request to lower the wall height, it was recommended that the heights of existing walls in the neighborhood be documented to justify a height reduction. The Committee stated it was questionable if a height reduction would be approved with this new information. Cowan stated for the record that he lived within 500 feet of the next item and recused himself and le ft the meeti ng. ITEM 5.220 WILDER AVENUE The Committee considered a request to change the exterior siding of a detached garage in the Almond Grove Historic District. Pacheco moved approve the request. Kane seconded motion passed unanimously. Appeal rights were cited. ITEM 6.OTHER BUSINESS a.Santa Clara County Historical Heritage Commission meeting review-. Pacheco summarized the meeting. ITEM 7:STATUS OF PREVIOUS APPLICATIONS Baily informed the Committee on the status of previous applications. ITEM 8:APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes from the meeting of Ju ly 6 , 2 00 5 w er e p as se d u na ni mo us ly. ITEM 9:ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M. to a special meeting tentatively scheduled for August 30, 2005.
