Ord 1909 - DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A CONDITION OF WATER SHORTAGE AND PROVIDING FOR MANDATORY REDUCTIONS IN AND SPECIFIED PROHIBITIONS OF WATER USE AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 1848ORDINANCE 1909 ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DECLARING THE EXISTENCE OF A CONDITION OF WATER SHORTAGE AND PROVIDING FOR MANDATORY REDUCTIONS IN AND SPECIFIED PROHIBITIONS OF WATER USE AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 1848 THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DOES HEREBY ORDAIN: SECTION I The Council finds and determines that a state of drought and water shortage exists throughout the Santa Clara Valley. Water conservation measures are necessary and water consumption must be reduced by 15 percent below consumption in the base year 1987. Failure to reduce water consumption would contribute to existing water shortage. The following measures are necessary to preserve the health and safety of the people of Los Gatos. SECTION II The following uses of water are classified as "nonessential or unauthorized" and are prohibited: 1. Any water use in excess of stated allocation. 2. Water waste due to broken or defective plumbing, sprinkler, watering or irrigation systems. 3. Use of water resulting in flooding or runoff in gutters or streets. 4. Use of water through a hose for washing cars, buses, boats, trailers or other vehicles without a positive automatic shut -off valve on the outlet end of the hose. 5. Use of water for construction purposes such as consolidation of backfill, unless no other reasonable source of water or other method can be used. 6. Cleaning of buildings, structures, sidewalks, driveways, patios, parking lots, or other paved or hard surfaced areas. 7. . Restaurant water service, unless upon request. Atny \disk003 \drought 1 SECTION III Ordinance No. 1848 is hereby rescinded. SECTION IV This ordinance takes effect 30 days after the date it is adopted. Within 15 days after this ordinance is adopted, the Town Clerk shall cause it to be published once in a newspaper of general circulation published and circulated in the Town. This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos on July 6, 1992 and adopted by the following vote as an ordinance of the Town of Los Gatos at a regular meeting of the Town Council on July 20, 1992.
