ZONE CHANGE FROM R -1:8 TO R- 1:8:LHP, FOR PROPERTY LOCATED
AT 16221 SHANNON ROAD.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt an ordinance to amend the Town Code effecting a zone change from R -1:8 to R- 1:8:LHP,
for property located at 16221 Shannon Road.
DISCUSSION
On December 6, 2010, the Council considered and voted to introduce an ordinance to change the
zone from R -1:8 to R- 1:8:LHP; designating the site at 16221 Shannon Road as a historic
landmark. The Council approved the ordinance as presented.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS
DESIGNATING 16221 SHANNON ROAD AS
HISTORICALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT
THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LOS GATOS DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I
The following site is hereby designated historically and culturally significant:
HD -10 -003 16221 Shannon Road
A detailed description of the designated site, the characteristics which justify designation,
and a map showing the location and delineation of the historic site, are part of this ordinance.
SECTION II
The property listed is designated to be of historic, architectural, or aesthetic significance
for the reasons listed below:
A. Property 16221 Shannon Road
B. Historic Designation No.: HD -10 -003
C. Description of Designation: 16221 Shannon Road
D. Description of Characteristics which justify Designation:
The Queen Anne style house was constructed in 1889. The house retains the original
redwood siding and ornamentation. The site also includes two original barns, as well as an original
outhouse which has been updated to include modern facilities.
The original property owner, Charles Beedle, purchased the property as part of a 20 acre
parcel located within the Garden tract on Shannon Road in 1884. Charles Beedle was an acclaimed
horticulturalist, and planted prunes, apricots, and oranges among other fruits on the property. Up
until recently the property contained a unique tree that produced oranges, lemons, and grapefruits.
The site also contains significant foliage including a white oak that is believed to be 600
years old.

SECTION III
This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of
Los Gatos on December 6, 2010, and adopted by the following vote as an ordinance of the Town
of Los Gatos at a meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Los Gatos on December 20, 2010.
This ordinance takes effect 30 days after it is adopted.
