TO: MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL G~~ FROM: GREG CARSON, TOWN MANAGER ~ SUBJECT: APPOINT MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES TO THE LOS GATOS YOUTH COMMISSION; COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION, AND PARKS COMMISSION AS .RECOMMENDED BY THE AD HOC COUNCIL SUB-COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: Appoint members and alternates.to the Youth Commission, Community Services Commission, and Parks Commission, as recommended by the Ad Hoc Council Sub-Committee. BACKGROUND: Since June of 2004, Council has made appointments of members and alternates on the Youth Commission, Community Services Commission, and Parks Commission to fill the seats available due to expiring terms. Recruitment efforts to fill the available seats included distribution of letters to local and outlying area schools which Los Gatos youth attend, press releases to the local media, and posting of the opportunity on the Town's website. T)TSC;i TSSTnN: The Council has the opportunity to make appointments to the Youth Commission, Community Services Commission, and Parks Commission at the June 7, 2010 Council meeting. An Ad Hoc Council sub-committee comprised of Vice Mayor Joe Pirzynslci, Council Member Steve Rice, and Chief Scott Seaman interviewed the applicants. PREPARED BY: SCOTT R. All of the applicants demonstrated initiative and community spirit in applying for a seat on the Youth Commission, Community Services Commission, and Parks Commission, and should be commended for their effort. In general, the recommended appointments are comprised of youth from the grade levels of the vacated seats to maintain a balance of youth representation on the Commissions. The recommended member and alternate appointments are listed in the Attachment. CONCLUSION: The Council Ad Hoc sub-committee and staff recommend that Council appoint members and alternates as reflected in the Attachment. ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: This is not a project defined under CEQA, and no further action is required. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for staff support to the Youth Commission, Community Services Commission, and Parlcs Commission are available within the Police Department, Community Services Department, and Parks and Public Worlcs Department operating budgets, and the Town-wide commission. training budget.
