Ord 0202-PROVIDING FOR A WIRE INSPECTOR AND HIS COMPENSATION FIXING HIS DUTIES AND REGULATING THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL WIRESORDIXANCE 2- 0 AIT ORDIiWCE PROVIDING FOR A !MIRE INSPECTOR AND HIS CGII ENSATION, FIXING HIS DUTIES AND RuGUTATING THE INSTALI TION OI ELECTRICAL FIRES J AND AP.PARL.TUS IN TIM TOYM OF LOS GATOS, AND FLEES FOR INSPECTION. The Board of Trustees of the Torn of Los Gatos do ordain as follows:-- SECTION I: A Fire Inspector_is hereby provided for the Town of Los Gatos, 'Who shall be app®._'`ted by its council and shall receive as, compensation for his services the fees hereinafter pro- vided for. It shall be, and, is hereby made :nis duty, and he is hereby empowered and authorized to enforce the provisions of this ordinance and of the general laws of the state upon the same sub- `ect, and to have and perform sub? ether or further duties, and for such further compensation as may hereafter be provided for. This employment shall continue at the pleasure of the appointing power. He shall re'por't to the council. each month at the regular meeting thereof, for the previous month, the collection of fees by him hereby provided for by a statement filed with the clerk, setting out in detail the fees collected, and for what collected, and the names of the persons from whom collected. SECTION 2. The :sire Inspector shall have the supervision about electrical any a buil.ding vacant putting , appliances, apparatus in, on or all ne n,.ct~.ons lot, public street, or alley in the Town of Los Gatos. It shall be his duty to inspect all inside or outside electrical wiring in the Town of Lo.s Gatos, whether telephone, telegraph, electric light or power or other wiring, and to report any unsafe conditions to the persons, firms, companies, or corporations owning or controlling the same. It shall be the duty of the `Mire Inspector to disconnect any electrical wiring connections, appliances or apparatus in the Town of Los Gatos by pulling the fuses or cutting the wires controlling the same, Vhene*e°r such e .ect.rical wiring, connections, '".appliances or apparatus shall have been found or reported to be in an unsafe condition, and it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, company or corporation to use such equipment until it has been repaired and ap- proved by the Fire Inspector, provided, however, that whenever such equipment has been found or reported to be in an uns fe Condit ionthe Wire Inspector shall. give or cause to be.give persons, ~ firm., company or corporation owning or controlling the same, notice thereof, and demand that the same be repaired within the time fixed by the Wire Inspector before disconnecting the same, as herein provided. firm, company or corporation shall SECTION 3. Such permit shall state the kind., of work a, o be dome and shall. cover only the kind of work so rtes rghl at rd. Said permit shall also state the location by street and, number of the building where said work is to be done, and shall be valid only for the location so stated. When an equipment is found to conform to the rules and regulations adopted herein, the Wire In- spector shall issue a certificate that the terms of this ordinance have been complied with, but no such certificate shall be granted until the equipment is made, and conforms to the ruses prescribed herein, and it shall be unlawful to use any such currents for the sane, until such certificate has been furnished in accordance ivi.th the terms of this ordinance, provided, however, the aYire Inspector may, before such certificate is Issued, grant a temporary permit to furnish and use electric current through any wiring, apparatus or gixtures for a period not exceeding ten days, if in his judgment such wirirnga apparatus or fixtures are in such condition that cur- rent may be safely used therein, and there exists are urgent necessity for such use. SECTION 4. In the construction of all electrical wiring, connections, appliances and apparatus an the Town of Los Gatos, the ordinances of said city, together with the rules and regulations of the National: Electrical Code in effect at the time the cork is in- stalled, must be complied with. SECTION 5. It shall be the duty of the 'daire inspector to inspect all electrical equipment in sayd city from time to time, and if any part of any electrical equipment in or about any building sn said city shall be found to be dangerous to life or property, the ;"dire Inspector shall have the right and power, and it shall be his duty., to notify the owner of the building or equipment to cease using electric current in such dangerous equipment, and to have the deferbs in such equipment repaired within a reasonable time, not exceeding ten days from date of notice< The Wire Inspector is also 4 Whorized t: o. ,give written notice to the company -furnishing the current to any such dangerous equipment to case t-o, until the defects are r~epa.ired. In a prosecution for a violation of the provisions of this section, each days neglect to comply therewith, shall be considered and taken as a separate violatioh. SECTION 5. The placing, installing or operating of electrical wires, appliances, apparatus, or construction in or on buildings in the Town of Los Gatos shall 'be executed in accordance with puns andti spec ificat i ons previously approved in rit ing by the Wire I7n- spec±or« SECTION 7. Each electric motor of 1,I4 house power and over, and each electric generator, station transformer or motor generator .set of over 1.87 killowatts capacity, shall be inspected at least once a, year, for which inspection the fee shall be one-half OV2) that charge for installation, the minizausa.fee being fifty (50) cents. Any person, firm or corporation who shall do, or attempt to do, electrical installation, fixture, or service connection work, whethet original work or alterations, without giving notice in writing to the Vvide inspectors and without first obtaining a permit to do such work, ~Y.~al.l be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon con- viction thereof. shall be punished by a fine Jr, the sum o. not less than twenty dollars ($20.00), nor more than-one hundred d.o4laars ($100.00), or by imprisonment in the city prison, for a period not exceeding fifty k50) days, or by both su&_ fine and imprisonment, for each offense; and .any person, firm, or corporation who shall= violate any of the provisions of th.i s or d.inanee, for which a p enal.ty is t hereJ&n ot&serwi se provided, and any occupant or owner of premises, where electric wiring or apa- paratus is used., or to be used., who shall prevent or- interefere with the Uvire inspector in the discharge of his duties under. thi s Ordinance, he or they shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and. upon. conviction sb~al.l be puni,sbable bya fire of not less than five dollars near =re than one hundred dollars ($100.00), or by imprisonment in the city prison for a perioi not exceeding f'ifty (50) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 10. The Mire Inspector during the period of his employment is probl'bited from in arty wisp: engaging in ar.9 of the work set out in and affected by this ordinance. SECTION-11. The rules and regulations known as "Wiring data for Altering Current Motors" published by the Bogard of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific *il1 be accepted as the Rules and. Regulations for the installation of mortars. SECTION 12. No building permit issued under Ordinance No- / l of the Town of Los Gatos entitled, "An ordinance providing for fire limits, and the construction and equipment of buildings in the Town of Lois Gatos" passed arA/ adopted by e Board of Trustees of the Town of Boas Gatos on the/ . day of 1923, shall. entitle anyone to do ,kelectric work covered by this Ordinance upon any such building up® h ~oerlvait has been issued, but in all cases an ad- ditional permit Under this ordinance shall be required. SECTION 13. All ordinance and parts of ordinance in conflict with any of the pr-ov i si ons of this Ordinance are hereby repealed > SE.CTIO 14.
