Ord 0167-REGULATING THE CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETET , AN OPDIANCE REGUTATDIG TIM CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE CURBS. GUTTERS AND SIDE1,W-ALES IN THE TOViN OF LOS GATOS. The Board of Trustees of the Town of Los Gatos do ordain as follows: SEC, OXE: No person, firm or cor- poration sha,31, within the corporate limits of the Town of Los Gatos lay down, build or construct any sidewalks, curbs or gutters upon any street, lane or alley therein without first having applied to and obtained from the Board of Trustees of said Town a permit so to do, and all of said work shall be done under the supervision and to the satisfaction of the Superintendent of Streets of said Towne SEC. 5v All sidewalks, curbs and gutters shall be constructed in accordance with the plans and sectional drawings prepared by the Town lnigrneer and entitled "flans and Sectional Drawing for the Construction of Concrete Curbs, Gutters and Sidewalks in t#e Town of Los Gatos, Sheets B370 and 133711" filed with the Town Clerk of the Town of Los Gatos on the 19th day of I'arch, 1915, and approved and hdopted by the Board of Trustees on the 19th day of Barth, 1915, SEC® THR:~'P: Ali sidewalks, curb s and gutters sh;;~'l re constructed according to :#e official lines and -rades heretofore established and adopted br which may hereafter be established and adopted by the Board of Trustees of said Towne SEC. FOUR: That the person, firm or corporation laying down, building or constructing any such sidewalk, curb or gutter befae proceeding to do the work of laying down, brilding or construct- ing said sidewalk, curb or gutter shall first file with the Superintendent of Streets of said Town of Los Gatos, a request for the Town Engineer to makr upon the ground the offici4 lines and grades for said sidewalk, curbs and gutters and shall net do any work thereon until the said Town Engineer shall have first given and marked on the ground the said official lines and grades. SEC. FIVE: All sidewalks, curbs and gutters dhall be constructed according to the specifications therefor adopted by the Board of Trustees of the said Town on the 19th day of March, 1916, reference to which specifications are hereby made and said specifications are made a part of this ordinance. SW. S3:X: Immediately after the completion of the work for trhich the permit is granted as hereinbefore provided, the person, firm or corporation doing said work shall remove all un-used material, refuse and dirt placed by him on or in the vicinity of the work. SEC. SEVEN: Any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding One Hundred Dollars or by imm ®2® prisonment in the County Jail of not more than fifteen: days or by both such fine and imprisonment. ,TC. 2IGHT: This Ordinance shall be published for two weeks in the Los Gatos Nets a Newspaper printed and published in the Toyan of Los Gatos. The cemen 1 used must be Portland Cement meeting the requirements and tests of the standard specifications for Portland Cement adopted by the Pmerican Society of Testing Material-— The sand or screening used in the concrete or l in the surface shall not contain -particles retained by a screen shaving g a four (4) meshes per lineal inch. The grains shall have rough unpolished surfaces to which the cement paste will readily adhere and small range uniform from fire to coarse. The sand shall be free from lumps of clay, loam or other foreign materials. It shall contain not more than five (5) per cent by weight of finely divided clay, loam or other suspended matter, when tested by mashing. The sand shall be free from oil_q or greasy matter in any _"orn and must contain no organic silt. Unless the curb and gutter are poured at the same time, the --utter must be poured as k•' soon as the curb is finished down to the point where the gutter is to be joined and before the concrete in the curb is finally set. The top or finish coat shall be put on immediately and troweled down and finished with a rough brush finish. The finished surface of the gutter shall be lined opposite the markings on the curb. The finished curb and gutter shall be protected from the hot sun by a covering of planking or clean loam and sand and must be kept wet for six (6) days. The curbing shall be continued around the corners of intersecting streets on a curiae of 8 feet radius ex- cepting where the width of the sidewalk between the property line and the face of the curb is six (6) feet, or less, in -hich case tie curb shall be continued around the corners of the intersecting streets on a curve of six (6) foot radius. .9-11 mixing shall be done in boxes on a suitable platform or in power mixers. In case of mixing by hands the materials shall be spread in uniform layers of such thickness as to obtain the proper. proportions. The mass shall then be mixed dry by turning with shovels at least three times and until the mixture has an even color. Water shall then be added in a fine spray, and the mixture turned at least twice wet, after which it shall be imm medin.tely l,ce in postion and thoroughly tamped and rammed until it is thoroughly compacted. The concrete shall be sufficiently wet so that some moisture rises to the surface under the tamping, but shall not be so wet that it shall quake under the tamper. Under no circumstances shall any concrete be put into the work after its initial set has taken place and in no case will retampering be permitted. The top surface or facing shall be composed of sand and Portland Cement mixed in the proportions of one (1) part cement to one and one-half (1-j) parts of sand.. The sand for the top layer shall be colored by mixing dry lamp black with the sand, using one pound of lamp black to four cubic feet of the sane., and thoroughly mixing before adding the cement, The concrete base shall be mixed as before describ ed and immediately placed upon the prepared subgrade and thoroughly tamped and rammed.
